The community of Ferncliff (know as Ferncliff Beach)is a unique spot located on Presque Isle Bay in Erie, Pennsylvania. Established in the late 1800’s and used primarily for summer cottages where the local residents keep their rowboats and fishing gear. It was also a place to take families for “adventure” on the water. Over the years it has evolved to a mix of full time homes and cottages that are also winterized. Fencliff residents were able to purchase the land from the Port Authority of Erie in 2000 and since that time some buildings have been torn down and rebuilt, others have had major repairs. The community governed under a PUD (not sure what the letters stand for as I write but will find out). Each owner pays a small quarterly assessment to defray the costs of snowplowing, garbage dumpsters, insurance, water services and other items that pertain to their need. It is adjacent to the Erie Yacht Club where several of the residents are members and keep their boats docked.
