George Orville Loesel was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 14, 1894. He is the son of Charles F. and Mary Lois Loesel. George married Mary Lavira Anstead on June 26, 1927 in Falconer, New York. George and Mary had three children: Richard Orville, Cynthia Jane and George Gilbert Loesel. As a young boy he and his family spent a great deal of time at the family cottage located at Ferncliff Beach, this is where he discovered his love for the water and boats in general. He attended and graduated from Erie Central, he later was accepted as a cadet at the West Point Academy (which he dropped out of) and later was commissioned in the Army Air Corp during World War I. He was one of Erie’s well know Independent Insurance Agents as well as serving the Erie Yacht Club as Secretary Treasurer for 28 years. In his youth he became great friends with the Nagle Brothers and was a founding member of the well know “Putrid Order of Bean Birds”. He died in Erie on May 29, 1983.
